Poltergeists

Savannah is by far the most haunted city in the country. Every year psychics, mediums, and ghost hunters flock to Savannah looking for the ultimate haunting, a ghostie, or a grumpy poltergeist. Traditionally speaking hauntings are places where there are residual energies left from the former occupants. It doesn't necessarily mean the former occupant is still there. For the most part Death doesn't keep hostages. When we pass on we move on to whatever adventure we have chosen next. Staying behind isn't productive, so there is no universal precedent for spirits to remain behind.
Hauntings occur on many different levels, some of them couldn't be classified as concrete hauntings. They're nothing more than energy manifestations created by the living occupants of the home. Ghosts and poltergeists aren't the same thing, despite the translation of trickster ghost. Poltergeists are manifested when there is a great deal of turmoil, chaos, major life alterations, and general upheaval. Generally speaking, they tend to manifest with the onset of teen years, during any of the above conditions, or if someone in the house has a particularly powerful emotional and energetic charge. For instance during periods of transition or loss when emotions tend to be very high.
Thoughts and emotions are nothing more than our biochemical reactions to physical circumstances. They are created from electrical impulses. The intensity of these impulses are reflected in the aura. That reflection tends to shine like a beacon to any like energy. Imagine that you're very very angry but for whatever reason you're unable to release this energy. Maybe you don't process emotions very well or maybe you're in a position where you can't express them. It radiates and attracts like energy. That energy acts as a magnifying glass for the energy you're already carrying. The result is a walking fusion bomb capable of releasing at any moment.
Remember that the aura has attracted like energy(ies) for good or bad it has now attracted other released energies. On rare occasion this energy becomes very heavy and forms a manifestation. This might appear as an orb or series of orbs, shadows, and a general heaviness in the environment. Guests might feel uncomfortable, items might disappear, there may be sounds or electrical interferences, cell phone disturbances, things may come on, shut off, or short out for no apparent reason. This heavy energy then releases itself. It basicly becomes too heavy for the aura to sustain and breaks away to become an energy pocket separate from the host. The more energy that is fed into it...for instance fear, confusion, aggravation at things vanishing into thin air supposedly in addition to the energies that are already created by the initial energies...the more active it becomes.
Eventually it will dissipate on its own. The best way to get rid of it is not to feed it. Relax, process your emotions and practice grounding and centering often. It's important to release often, daily even in order to live happy productive lives. Negative energy damages our physical, mental, and spiritual well being. It also affects everything and everyone around us. Usually the first signs of this type of manifestation is a general heaviness followed by anxiety, odd dreams, insomnia or constant exhaustion. If at this point the energy level isn't balanced, and with these things added to the mix it usually won't be, expect dark round "spots" that hover, shadow people, hooded figures, and energetic interference.
Poltergeists are creepy, a source for a few cheesy movies, but they're not anything to really concern yourself with. Occasionally there will be instances in which someone will move into a home already inhabited by a residual manifestation. A good cleansing, smudging, and balancing will usually do the trick.
