Creating elemental thoughtforms

Elementals are thoughtforms created in our astral temples and brought to life to work with the elements with a specific purpose in mind. Elementals can be a projection of ourselves, a created elemental, or a representative of an elemental created with specific energies ( say for instance a dragon elemental of Earth or Air). These thoughtforms are very powerful, purposeful, and an extension and manifestation of your inner will.

Creating an elemental (or any other thoughtform) requires that we must be able to maintain control over this creation and show our gratitude and attention for the important duties they perform. You may want to allow an area of your altar or other temple space to be a dedication to your creation for their hard work and loyalty or create an area for them in the area where they will be. It could be as simple as placing a favored crystal or candle near them, an offering bowl, or burning their favorite incense. You will know what these things are because you will create them from the ground up. The astral ground that is.

These beings need not be permanent fixtures in your life, but can be returned to the Earth from which we draw our energies when their duties have been fulfilled. It is vitally important that these energies be returned instead of neglected and ignored. The last thing anyone wants is a wayward elemental running abount, although this is extremely rare as it can be dismantled much easier than it can be created. Furthermore, it will only be as strong as you allow it to be as it will be an extension of your own strength.

We create these thoughtforms for various reasons. Some are listed below but I’m sure there are many other reasons for creating said beings.

for the protection of your family, home, yourself, and pets
to protect against natural disasters
to ensure the honesty of those around you by making them tell the truth
for the gathering and relaying of information
as a magick companion
the protection of yourself and your children when you are away from the safety of your home
to aid in atmospheric cleansing

To create an elemental you must first decide on what purpose you wish to assign it. Elementals (or any thoughtform) exist based on specific wishes of the witch creating it. The first step is to decide what you want this being to accomplish. Will it be temporary or a permanent part of your life? If it will be long term, you will have to constantly feed energy into it and never allow it to feel as if you are ignoring it or allow it to run rampant. You must be able to control it completely, allowing it some free reign to do it’s duty but with the programming you provide for it.
To decide what your elemental will be, start with the purpose that you wish to create it. Will it be for protection, for information relay, for magickal companionship, or for atmospheric cleansing and conditioning? Make a list of all the things that you associate with said duty. For instance, if you are creating it for the purpose of protection, what creatures or what associations do you apply to that purpose? You are creating a being from the bottom up, you can make any sort of creature. Say you have pondered it over and have decided to create a creature that is half griffin and half dragon. Which elemental are you imparting to this creature, as it is a representative of all of them. Which ones will be the strongest of characteristics? Work with those energies to create this being. If you were working with a unicorn elemental, then invoke the wisdom and guidance of the Spirit and of the Unicorn to assist you. Get to know the creature that you are creating by the example of other creatures like it.

Next decide whether you will allow your elemental to run around your home and property, watching over it in its’ entirety or whether you will assign it to say your car or your childrens’ room or your kitchen. This will help you to not only decide how big to make it, but also whether you will opt to create a sacred space for it and where it will be. It will also help to determine the personality of the creature. You wouldn’t very well want an elemental of a Pegasus to be bound indoors. That would be cruel and unfitting, as the Pegasus is a free spirit. The same can be said of the duty you assign it...it would certainly not be comfortable or happy sitting in front of your door all day. A gargoyle is much more suited to this duty as is a Chinese drago~lion, griffin, or dragon. Consider the nature of the beast you will be creating. You may want to align this creature with not only its purpose and element, but also with your patron deity.

What do you want it to look like? Decide the color and whether it will be able to blend in with the surroundings to catch other astral beings off guard, or whether it will be brilliantly colored. Again consider the nature of the beast. A rainbow colored creature would be much more suited to a dragon than it would be to a gargoyle. You may want to assign the color based on it’s magickal purpose. If you want this elemental for say healing you might want to make it white, blue, pink or green. White is a neutral magickal color as it can be used for protection, spirituality, love, harmony, and healing simultaneously. Grey allows for protection, banishing, and creating a neutral atmosphere and so forth, depending on your tradition and your experience. No doubt it will have it’s own two cents to throw into the mix regarding its’ coloration. Listen to it. By this time you have created an assignment for it, given it a nature and personality, created a focal point for it or central location, and probably named it. You have certainly begun to manifest the energy of its’ creation, now it’s just a matter of putting the pieces into place.
While creating this being, you must go into a deep meditative state (you can also do this while dreaming if you’re good at dream weaving), but not so deep as to be unable to function on the physical. You will need to create an energy ball to which you will give shape, size, purpose, color and name. This is the toddler stage of the development of the thoughtform. As the energy between your hands grows and developes, assign it it’s features and characteristics. You will feel as if your hands are full and you may find that your palms are being moved away from each other as it grows. See the energy being placed where you are assigning it. Give it the information it needs to carry out its purpose. Show it your children, pets, car, or who you wish to attain information from.

Bless it with each elemental and pull these elemental energies into yourself. Introduce your elemental to the elemental energies and allow them to get to know each other. They will be working together to make sure its’ purpose is manifested. Give the blessing five times (as five is a sacred number), and with the last blessing allow the element of Spirit to bless and consecrate this working creation. After you have created it and blessed it, tell it what it is you wish it to do specificly and consecrate it to your patron deity. Repeat this process a total of five times so that the creature is solidly created.

After your elemental has been created, remind it of its duty once in a while, and thank it often for the service it is providing. It will need a monthly infusion of your energy every full moon (or dark moon depending on it’s purpose), and leave offerings or gifts to it often. If you have gifted it with a crystal keep it charged and clean.
